A drone is an Unmanned Aircraft. Drones are more formally known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or unmanned aircraft systems.

In a narrow sense, UAS refers to Unmanned Aircraft System. Broadly speaking, UAVs or RPAVs can also be seen as a component of an UAS, which also includes a ground-based controller and a system of communications with the aircraft.
