DJI Mavic series

DJI Mavic series is a family of folding camera drones developed by DJI of China, introduced with the Mavic Pro in September 2016 and currently led by the Mavic 4 Pro, released in May 2025. The specifications on this page refer to the Mavic 3 Pro of 2023, the most recent model for which DJI publishes a full specification sheet on its main website; the Mavic 4 Pro is described from trade-press coverage. The Mavic 3 Pro weighs 958 g, flies for up to 43 minutes, reaches 21 m/s (75.6 km/h) and has a maximum video-transmission distance of 15 km under FCC rules.

Overview

The Mavic name originally covered all of DJI's folding consumer drones, but since 2018 it has denoted the premium tier, with the lighter Air series and the sub-250 g Mini series as separate lines below it and the professional Inspire series above.

The Mavic Pro, announced in September 2016, established the format: a quadcopter whose four arms fold against the body, a three-axis gimbal with a 4K camera, a 27-minute flight time and OcuSync transmission up to 7 km. The Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom of 2018 introduced a Hasselblad camera and a zoom camera; the Mavic 3 of November 2021 moved to a Four Thirds Hasselblad sensor, a 46-minute flight time and O3+ transmission with 15 km range, followed by the Mavic 3 Classic (2022) and the triple-camera Mavic 3 Pro (April 2023).

The Mavic 4 Pro was launched on 13 May 2025. At launch it was sold in Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Mexico and Australia but not in the United States, which DroneDJ and DroneLife attributed to tariffs on Chinese-made drones.

Design and capabilities

All Mavic models are electric quadcopters with four brushless motors on folding arms, a single intelligent flight battery and DJI's OcuSync or later O-series transmission. DJI's specification page for the Mavic 3 Pro lists a take-off weight of 958 g (963 g for the Mavic 3 Pro Cine), unfolded dimensions of 347.5 × 290.8 × 107.7 mm, a 5,000 mAh battery giving a maximum flight time of 43 minutes, a maximum horizontal speed of 21 m/s (75.6 km/h), a maximum take-off altitude of 6,000 m and wind resistance of 12 m/s. The O3+ transmission system has a maximum distance of 15 km under FCC rules and 8 km under CE, SRRC and MIC rules; the 15 km FCC figure is the range in the specs block.

The Mavic 3 Pro carries three cameras on one gimbal: a Four Thirds Hasselblad main camera at 24 mm equivalent, a 1/1.3-inch 48-megapixel medium telephoto at 70 mm and a telephoto at 166 mm.

The Mavic 4 Pro, launched on 13 May 2025, is described by DroneDJ and DroneLife as adding a 100-megapixel Four Thirds Hasselblad main camera recording 6K/60fps HDR or 4K/120fps video, a 48-megapixel 70 mm medium telephoto and a 50-megapixel 168 mm telephoto, an "Infinity Gimbal" that rotates through 360 degrees and tilts upward to 70 degrees, forward LiDAR, 64 GB of internal storage (512 GB on the Creator Combo), a maximum flight time of 51 minutes on a 6,654 mAh battery and O4+ video transmission from up to 30 km. Mavic drones are used by professional and advanced amateur photographers, videographers, real-estate marketers and content producers who need a camera drone that fits in a small bag; the Mavic 2 Enterprise extended the platform to public-safety, inspection and surveying users.
