eBee X

senseFly · Switzerland · also known as eBee Micro · Updated

The eBee X is a fixed-wing, hand-launched mapping drone made by senseFly, a Swiss company owned by AgEagle Aerial Systems, launched in 2018. It is designed for aerial surveying and photogrammetry, covering large areas per flight without a runway.

Overview

senseFly was founded in 2009 as a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) and later became a subsidiary of French drone maker Parrot before AgEagle Aerial Systems acquired the company in 2021. The eBee X, introduced in 2018, is the flagship model in senseFly's eBee family of fixed-wing mapping drones, which also includes camera- and sensor-specific variants built on the same basic airframe.

Design and capabilities

The eBee X has a wingspan of 116 cm and a hand-launch take-off weight of 1.3 to 1.6 kg depending on the camera and battery fitted. It is electrically powered by a single pusher motor and can fly for up to 90 minutes per battery, at cruise speeds between roughly 40 and 110 km/h. In its standard configuration the aircraft can cover a flight radius of about 37 km, extending to about 55 km with an optional endurance battery. senseFly markets the eBee X with a choice of interchangeable RGB, multispectral and thermal cameras, and offers on-board real-time kinematic (RTK) and post-processed kinematic (PPK) positioning for survey-grade accuracy without ground control points.

Use cases

The eBee X is used across agriculture, construction, mining, surveying, environmental monitoring and public-safety mapping, where operators need to quickly generate orthomosaics or 3D models of a site. In 2022 the type received European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) design verification supporting beyond-visual-line-of-sight and operations-over-people use, and in 2023 senseFly's eBee drones received an EASA C6 class label enabling similar operations under European drone regulations from 2024.
