Amazon Prime Air is the drone delivery programme of Amazon, the US e-commerce and technology company. Jeff Bezos first revealed plans for the service in a 2013 television interview, and Amazon formally stood up the Prime Air programme in 2014 to design, build and operate its own small delivery aircraft rather than buy them from an outside manufacturer.
Prime Air's aircraft are known by MK model numbers; its current production type is the MK30, a hybrid multicopter-fixed-wing drone that delivers packages of up to 5 lb. Amazon received an FAA Special Airworthiness Certificate for early MK27 testing in 2019 and an FAA Part 135 air-carrier certificate in 2020, and began its first commercial deliveries in Lockeford, California, and College Station, Texas, in December 2022.
As of 2026, Prime Air operates delivery sites across several US states and has said it intends to expand drone delivery to nearly 500 US cities and towns by the end of the year, alongside earlier pilot operations in Italy and the United Kingdom.
