Archer Aviation

Archer Aviation is a United States aerospace company developing electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for urban air mobility. It was founded on 16 October 2018 and is headquartered in San Jose, California.

What the company builds

Archer's production design is Midnight, a piloted four-passenger aircraft intended for rapid back-to-back short flights. The company describes a maximum range of about 100 miles and speeds up to 150 mph. Archer has a manufacturing agreement with Stellantis and has taken pre-orders, including an order from United Airlines for 200 aircraft.

Where things stand

Archer received an FAA Part 135 air carrier and operator certificate in June 2024 and FAA Part 141 certification for its pilot training academy in February 2025. Midnight completed its first international test flight in Abu Dhabi in July 2025, and in November 2025 Archer acquired Hawthorne Municipal Airport in Los Angeles as an operations hub. Initial commercial service has been planned around Miami and Los Angeles. In August 2026 Archer and Boeing signed definitive agreements under which Archer would acquire Boeing's Wisk Aero, Insitu and SkyGrid subsidiaries, with Boeing taking an equity stake in Archer; that transaction was expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory clearance.
