Denel Dynamics is the guided-weapons and unmanned aerial systems division of Denel SOC Ltd, South Africa's wholly state-owned armaments company. It is headquartered in Centurion, in Gauteng province. The division traces to 1991 as Kentron, a Denel subsidiary, which was renamed Denel Aerospace Systems in early 2004 and later became Denel Dynamics.
What the company builds
Denel Dynamics' unmanned aircraft work centres on the Seeker family of reconnaissance drones, including the Seeker 400, alongside earlier Seeker variants. It also builds guided missiles, including the Umkhonto surface-to-air missile, the Mokopa anti-armour missile, the A-Darter air-to-air missile, and the Raptor and Umbani families of precision-guided bombs.
Where things stand
Denel as a whole has gone through a prolonged financial crisis, with staff left unpaid for periods between 2020 and 2022 before a South African government bailout. By late 2025 the company said its turnaround was progressing, though it remains a wholly state-owned enterprise rather than an independent commercial manufacturer.
