Irkut traces to the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, founded on 28 March 1932 in Irkutsk, Siberia. The Irkutsk Aviation Production Association renamed itself Irkut Corporation in December 2002, and in August 2023 the company rebranded again as Yakovlev, the name it trades under today from its Moscow headquarters. This site continues to use the Irkut name for aircraft developed and marketed under that brand.

History and products

Irkut acquired the Yakovlev design bureau in April 2004, and in 2006 the Russian government folded Irkut, Yakovlev, Mikoyan, Ilyushin, Sukhoi and Tupolev into the state-owned United Aircraft Building Corporation. Under the Irkut and now Yakovlev names, the company builds the Sukhoi Su-30 family of multirole fighters and the Yakovlev MC-21 narrow-body airliner (alongside the SJ-100, formerly marketed as the Sukhoi Superjet 100). Irkut was the first Russian defence firm to complete an initial public offering, listing on the Moscow Exchange in March 2004. Alongside its combat and airliner programmes, Irkut has also developed small tactical reconnaissance UAVs.
