Elbit Systems
Elbit Systems is an Israeli defence technology company founded in 1966 as Elbit Computers, a joint venture of Elron Electronic Industries and Israel's Ministry of Defense, and headquartered in Haifa. It began by building computers and electronics for the Israeli military before growing into the country's largest non-governmental defence electronics company, a position cemented by its 2000 merger with El-Op.
History and products
Elbit Systems now spans unmanned aircraft, electro-optics, electronic warfare, signals intelligence, military communications and guided munitions such as the Iron Sting precision mortar round. Its Hermes family of medium-altitude UAVs, including the Hermes 900, is a mainstay of Israeli and export reconnaissance and strike-support fleets, alongside smaller tactical systems such as the Skylark hand-launched reconnaissance drone. Wikipedia reports that Elbit supplies about 85 percent of the Israel Defense Forces' land-based equipment and about 85 percent of the drones flown by the Israeli Air Force.
