History and products
Zala Aero delivered its first production UAV to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in 2006, and its ZALA 421-06 helicopter and ZALA 421-08 fixed-wing UAV completed testing and entered service in 2008. The company's ZALA 421-24, developed in 2021, is described by the company as Russia's first quadcopter. Zala Aero has also supplied UAVs outside Russia, including a 2009 agreement with Turkmenistan's Ministry of Internal Affairs for the ZALA 421-12 and a 2022-23 contract for seven UAV systems with UAV Latam in Latin America. Its ZALA T-08 and T-16 platforms have been used by Russia's Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, including a January 2026 flight near Mirny Station in Antarctica controlled from Izhevsk.
The company's loitering-munition line began with the Kub-BLA, recommended for Russian army adoption in 2021, and continued with the further-developed Lancet family in Lancet-1 and Lancet-3 versions. Zala Aero disclosed a longer-range loitering munition, the Italmas (BM-35), in September 2023. The company's product range also includes the ZALA KYB-UAV and the ZALA Drone Delivery ZDD, alongside a wider family of ZALA 421-series reconnaissance UAVs listed on this site. Zala Aero's customers have included the Russian Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the company has worked with Gazprom Space Systems on pipeline-monitoring links covering more than 2,000 km of pipeline.
