Geran-5 is Russia's most recently identified jet-powered one-way attack drone, and the first of the Geran family to abandon the delta-wing shape of the Iranian-designed Shahed-136/Geran-2 in favour of a slender, cruise-missile-like airframe; it was first reported in January 2026 and entered serial production alongside Geran-4 by mid-2026.

Overview
Ukrainian officials describe Geran-5 as a departure from the earlier Shahed/Geran shape: rather than adapting the delta-wing Geran-2/3/4 airframe to jet power, it uses a tubular fuselage, straight high-aspect-ratio wing and conventional tail — a layout HUR has compared to Iran's Karrar cruise missile — built around a carbon-fibre skin over a metal load-bearing structure. GlobalSecurity.org and The War Zone report it was first identified around January 2026 and reached serial production, alongside Geran-4, by the middle of that year, with combined Geran-4/5 output reported to have overtaken production of the original Geran-2.
The type is part of the same Russian shift toward jet-powered strike drones that produced Geran-3 and Geran-4, driven by the need to defeat inexpensive Ukrainian interceptor drones that had been shooting down large numbers of the slower, propeller-driven Geran-2.

It is powered by a Chinese-made Telefly TF-TJ2000A turbojet, reported at around 2,000 N of thrust, and is credited with cruise speeds in the 450–600 km/h range and a maximum speed cited by CSIS at up to 600 km/h, with an operating ceiling of up to 6,000 m. Reported range figures cluster around 950–1,000 km, consistent between GlobalSecurity.org and The War Zone (which separately cites a figure of about 620 miles, or roughly 1,000 km); the warhead is reported at around 90 kg.
The War Zone reports that diagrams reviewed by Ukrainian intelligence show a possible configuration for carrying Geran-5 under the wings of a Su-25 attack aircraft, which would extend its effective launch range beyond the Su-25's own combat radius; this has not been confirmed as operational. HUR-reported guidance components include a 12-channel Kometa satellite navigation receiver, a tracker built around a Raspberry Pi microcomputer, and 3G/4G cellular modems for GNSS-denied navigation and possible remote updates.
